In the interest of full disclosure: I blurred out the clearly-visible numbers on the license plate, and also the face of the police officer on the far left. As is typical here, I was only able to snap a few shots before, again, I was threatened with, well, a photo, room, and board, and a nice set of stainless steel bracelets.

Photojournalism. It's called "spot news" and I have as much right to this scene as the local paper's photographers, who will, no doubt, have a photograph of the car being hauled up on a flatbed, or something after the "in situ" shot.

Now, back to that coffee.

ATLANTA, Georgia (Mallory Simon|CNN) -- Eleven-year-old Jaheem Herrera woke up on April 16 acting strangely. He wasn't hungry and he didn't want to go to school.

But the outgoing fifth grader packed his bag and went to school at Dunaire Elementary School in DeKalb County, Georgia.

He came home much happier than when he left in the morning, smiling as he handed his mother, Masika Bermudez, a glowing report card full of A's and B's. She gave him a high-five and he went upstairs to his room as she prepared dinner.

A little later, when his younger sister called him to come down to eat, Jaheem didn't answer.

So mother and daughter climbed the stairs to Jaheem's room and opened the door.

Jaheem was hanging by his belt in the closet.

I still say this news anchor known 'round the world 'can' make a difference by stepping up to the plate, and stepping out of the closet, in a very public fashion.

Do it, get it out, get it over and done with, and then move on with life.

Just like the diminished sting of the 'n' word due to President Obama's occupying The White House, if Anderson Cooper speaks out, he won't be see by "those who already know" but by the bullies who need to know.

Pretty much all you need to know about the music video.

Believe it or not, there was a point when no one had ever heard of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart--better known as Eurythmics, even better known as the scary chick in the tuxedo and the guy playing the cello in the cow pasture and even better known as "that 80s band that wrote that Marilyn Manson song." That "song," "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)," almost didn't exist because the band, dropped from their label after a lackluster and hitless first album, almost completely dissolved before composing it.

In 1982, the band, which had started in 1980, had yet to make a single that even approached the minor success of their previous band. Their first album was plagued by management troubles, and by the time they were recording "Sweet Dreams," they were reduced to recording in an improvised "home studio" (read: attic of a warehouse) and were in-between labels.

Also, they were really weird.

Their arguments became more severe--which tends to happen when you combine artists with poverty--to the point where Lennox could not take it anymore and threatened to leave. Then, with a cold suaveness more easily expected from James Bond than a pasty synth-pop composer, Stewart replied "Okay, fine, you don't mind if I go ahead and program the drum computer then, do you?" (he's British, so we don't know if "drum computer" is a euphemism for something filthy, but we'd guess that, no, it is not). And there, with Dave Stewart fucking around on a drum machine, and Annie Lennox curled up on the floor sobbing, commenced what is likely the most awkward, creepy and uncomfortable recording session since Phil Spector held a gun to Leonard Cohen's head.

While screwing around, Stewart accidentally reversed a synthesized bass line, and holy shit did it sound badass. Badass enough that Lennox "could not resist" getting on her keyboard and laying down a synth line. The words just came to her and she improvised the lyrics and vocals right there in one take. From the looks of it, they probably made up the "plot" of the music video on the spot right then too.

Of course, this incident just followed the standard behavioral instinct of "if you're in the middle of an argument that angry sex can't solve, just get on the computer" that most guys possess. Except instead of playing World Of Warcraft until four in the morning, Dave Stewart put together an international hit song, and married one of the chicks from Bananarama. Kind of puts your life in perspective, doesn't it?

(CNN) -- A veterinary pharmacy in Florida acknowledged Thursday that it incorrectly prepared medication used to treat 21 horses who all died around the time of an international polo match last weekend.

The deaths of the ponies, witnessed in full view by spectators Sunday in a dramatic scene where horses collapsed one after another, have shaken the prestigious polo tournament at the marquee International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida.

An internal investigation by Franck's Pharmacy in Ocala, Florida, "concluded that the strength of an ingredient in the medication was incorrect. We will cooperate fully with the authorities as they continue their investigations," the company said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon.

"There were five horses that did not get the vitamin, and those were the only ones that survived," Nero said.

The horses collapsed one after another in front of spectators at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida, while being prepared for a tournament Sunday. Most were dead within an hour.

I’ve seen an awful lot. Some great stuff, and some stuff which really bothered me. Mostly, it was what I saw, and opted not to photograph, which bothered me the most, and stays with me the longest. A dead woman covered in a yellow tarp beneath a yellow “Cross Here” street sign, her feet sticking out from under the tarp. Someone’s mother, sister, wife. Not me. Never. And I’ve gotten into lots of trouble (LOTS) for photographs I took which I thought were completely harmless.

And I’ve won many awards for my photographs; even took photographs of Miami Beach which accompanied a story by Isaac Bashevis Singer, Nobel Prize-winning Polish-born American author and one of the leading figures in the Yiddish literary movement.. I’ve had “self-indulgent bullshit” (to quote my instructor Tony Golden at Syracuse University) on exhibit in museums, my work downstairs, Arbus, Avedon, Penn, Cartier-Bresson and Mapplethorpe upstairs (Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale).

But to some people, a photograph is dangerous.

What is really dangerous is a gun in the hands of a child.

Which is exactly how I feel with a camera: armed, dangerous, incisive, insightful, invincible and very invisible. Especially in a crowd. And by the time you notice me, the damage is already done.

And some very smart people (at least I thought, for the moment they were smart) have refused the opportunity for me to photograph them, when I expressed an interest. I think they knew I didn’t like what I saw in them. And truth be told, you never know.

Until it’s over, and you see what I saw. “You don’t know what I fear.”
